Cranky Caster Construction is a Port Townsend, Washington-based company that offers a variety of weatherization services. To improve the efficiency of energy sources in your home, take advantage of our services, which include:

Energy Audits

  • To detect leaks that allow cold air to come into your home we perform the blower door test..

  • To determine area in your house that have poor insulation that allows heat to escape, we use infrared tests.

  • To determine problems, such as leaks in ducts that could reduce the efficieny of your heating system, we perform inspections.

Corrective Activities

  • Air Sealing: You might easily find a draft in your house because you can feel air coming in around doors or windows. What you might not realize is that there are also hidden spots in places such as your attic or basement where there are also draft issues. Air sealing is a process that uses caulk, spray foam, or weather stripping to prevent leaks. Air sealing can lower your energy bills substantially, while making your home more comfortable.

  • Duct Sealing: If your house has forced-air heating and cooling systems, ducts distribute conditioned air throughout your home. In most houses, however, as air moves through the duct system, about 20 percent is lost because of leaks, holes, and ducts that are poorly connected. As a result you get higher utility bills and it's harder to keep your home comfortable, no matter what temperature you set the thermostat at. A well-designed duct system in a properly sealed property can make you and your family more comfortable and reward you with more energy efficiency.

  • Insulation: Insulation is one of the most cost-effective ways to make your home more comfortable during both hot and cold days. With our equipment we can blow either cellouses or fiberglass insulation in either your attic or walls. We can also add rigid foam insulation to your house's foundation.
